The Cheats – Pussyfootin
16/06/2012 in Music
Lively and just plain fun, Pittsburgh Rockabilly Punk group The Cheats have produced an album listeners can’t help but dance to. The melodic yet in your face riffs are a stark contrast to the gruff vocals by the band’s frontman Todd Porter, yet they have been combined to create Rockabilly Punk fusion, keeping the genre at its precocious best. The sassily monikered ‘Pussyfootin’ is the perfect description for the mischievous, and playful tracks laid out on this album. In plain English, the record consists of weighty instrumentals, punchy lyrics, and a gut full of fire.
‘Pussyfootin’ is the band’s third studio album, and after a few recording difficulties, it smells like success, and is bound to incite a couple of bar brawls. With drums originally recorded two years ago, this has been a long time coming for The Cheats, and is a very welcome addition to the Rockabilly Punk scene.
Truly Rock ‘n’ Roll, The Cheats’ aim was to produce an album similar to ‘late 70s punk rock’. The band has well surpassed that goal, taking the Punk genre itself back to its origins with tracks like ‘Better Than The Rest’ and ‘Gotta Get Away’, while fusing genres and transcending time with the fantastically Rockabilly riffs of ‘Mystery 37’.
A big band, with a big personality, The Cheats’ new album ‘Pussyfootin’ will have you swing dancin’ and bar brawlin’ in no time.
