NotFound – Black Velvet
16/06/2012 in Music
I recently discovered these guys accidentally, and I’m glad I did. I really didn’t expect to find any skate punk from Torino, Italy. NotFound are really hard to research, they’re almost not found (yep, I went there) but if you look hard enough, you will find a few things, just need to add in NoReason Records.
These guys remind me of Alkaline Trio in a big way, the dark lyrics, the style of sound and the technique of timing in their songs. Just imagine Alkaline Trio if that guy with the deeper voice sang all the time, instead of that really whiny high pitch guy that sounds like he’s crying all the time.
The opening track which is named the same as the album has a killer opening, a catchy melody that will scorch a mark in your head and it only gets better. When I played the album all the way through, I immediately wanted to play it again and I did exactly that. Truthfully, I’ve thrashed the shit out of this album and probably should have written this review when it came out late March.
You can tell the band takes influences from bands such as Alkaline Trio, Atlas Losing Grip and Hot Water Music. They play the sounds I love and actually hunt for these days. So if you’re living in the same world as me, a world saturated by metal and every sub-genre that comes from metal, and you’re on the hunt for some old school epifat style skate punk, these are your guys.
Stand out tracks are “Like An Anchor”, “Homeward Bound”, “Damnation Falls”, “Hope For Sunshine Prepare For Rain” and “One For The Believers”. Actually, all of them are sick, so just put it on and let it play.
You can get Black Velvet NOW via NoReason Records.
